Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear to my first appointment?

Wear something comfortable that you can move in. Bring a pair of shorts or loose trousers which easily pull up if it is a hip, knee, foot or ankle problem. Bring a tank top/vest top if it is a neck, upper back or shoulder problem. Avoid dresses, jumpsuits and playsuits where possible.

Why should I consult a Physiotherapist?

Physiotherapy can be helpful for people of all ages with a wide range of health conditions. These may include pain in a joint or muscle, reduced mobility or strength due to a neurological condition such as a stroke, MS or Parkinsons, difficulty with airway clearance from a respiratory condition or general decline in strength and balance.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your initial Physiotherapy appointment will consist of a few questions to identify the issue and what your goals are. Your physiotherapist will then perform a series of tests specific to your issue to aid in diagnosis and help to determine the most appropriate treatment for you. Treatment options will vary dependent on the condition. If you have any scans, medication lists or recent medical letters relating to the issue please bring these with you or email them to info@railwayphysiotherapy.com prior to your appointment.

How long are the appointments?

Initial physiotherapy appointments are up to 45mins, review appointments are up to 30mins. Sports massage appointments can be booked in 30, 45 or 60 minute durations. Some insurance appointments can be shorter, as these are set by the insurance company.

Can someone accompany me to my appointment?

If you require a chaperone to your appointment this can be permitted, please advise us in advance to ensure you are booked into the larger treatment room. Teenagers require a parent or guardian to be in attendance throughout. We recommend clients with reduced memory also bring a friend/family member.

Where should I park?

On street parking is available on Railway Street and in the surrounding areas. Graham Gardens multistorey carpark is a 3minute walk away. Clients with a blue badge can park directly outside the clinic on the single yellow line.

Can I use health insurance?

Yes, we cover most major health insurance companies. Get in touch with us to confirm your health provider is covered. Please contact your health insurance provider to gain authorisation prior to booking an appointment. Appointments booked without insurer authorisation may not be covered by your insurance company and you may be liable for payment.

Do you provide home visits?

We provide a small home visit service for those who cannot make it to clinic due to mobility or health reasons. Please contact using the contact form or email info@railwayphysiotherapy.com to discuss further. Health insurance cover cannot be used for home visit appointments.

I would like a sports massage but I am not a sportsperson, is this ok?

Absolutely! A lot of our regular sports massage clients are desk workers who struggle with tightness in their shoulders/neck. Our sports massage therapist or physiotherapist will check in with you to ensure the pressure is correct for you.
